Russell Murray is Associate Professor and Associate
Chair of Music at the University of Delaware, where he directs the
Collegium Musicum.
Although his training at the graduate level was primarily in
Renaissance musicology, he also held a teaching fellowship in
trumpet at the University of North Texas where he studied with John
Haynie and Leonard Candelaria. Playing with NVCB marks a return to
brass playing after more than 20 years specializing in early wind
instruments. He is currently Music Director and Conductor of the
Chesapeake Sliver Cornet Brass
Band.
Russell plays an "F. Jaubert" Imperial model cornet,
imported by Lyon and Healy around the turn of the century; and a
“Lamoreaux frères” instrument imported by Sears and listed in their
1908 catalog for a price of $33.45.
