Described
by critics as “masterful” and “evocative,” Christine Erlander
Beard is constantly in demand as a soloist, chamber artist, and
clinician. Quickly achieving international recognition as a
performer and advocate for the piccolo, she has performed
extensively across the U.S. and Europe, including six of the
previous eight conventions of the National Flute Association,
and the 2008 British Flute Society International Convention.
Founder and Executive Director of the International Piccolo
Symposium (www.piccolosymposium.com), she is a regular
guest artist at flute festivals across the U.S., most recently in
Saint Louis, Iowa, Philadelphia, Emporia (KS), Vermont, and the
Flute Society MidSouth. In 2010, she was invited by Jean-Louis
Beaumadier to perform at the International Flute Festival in
Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, France, where she also recorded a piccolo
trio for his upcoming CD.
As the Piccolo Artist for
Gemeinhardt Flutes, Christine has presented piccolo clinics and
lecture-recitals at the International Wind Music History
Symposium and the American Musical Instrument Society
International Conference, and her pedagogical articles and
columns have been published in Flute Talk, the Flutist
Quarterly, Flutewise, and The Instrumentalist. In
2010, she began serving the College Music Society as the national
Board Member for Performance, as well as the President of the Great
Plains Chapter of CMS. Dr. Beard earned her MM and DMA in flute
performance from The University of Texas at Austin. She joined the
faculty at the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 2002 where she
teaches applied flute, chamber music, and serves as Coordinator of
Woodwind Studies.
